SCHEDULE OF APPLICATION

College September 5 – January 06, 2023

The deadline for application is on January 06, 2023

The University of Santo Tomas Entrance Test (USTET) is administered to all applicants in order to qualify and determine who among them is the most prepared for the standard of education at the University of Santo Tomas. The overall final rating will be composed of the entrance examination score (80%) and the stated computed average grade (20%) in Math, English, and Science, based on the USTET Application Grades Form

Test Section Number of Items Time Allotment

Mental Ability 80 30 minutes

English       45 45 minutes

Math         60 45 minutes

Science         80 45 minutes

Mental Ability (IQ Tests)

Take practice IQ tests and logic quizzes in preparation for the Mental Ability section.

The Mental Ability section tests you on abstract ideas, logic, general knowledge, and common sense. This section functions like an Intelligence Quotient (IQ) test, and yet it’s also part of the scoring.

“What is the opposite of love?” “Which is soft?” “What comes next in the pattern?”, are some of the sample questions for the mental ability subtest

You’ll be given 30 minutes to answer 80 questions so know how to budget your time.

English

Study pronouns, prepositions, synonyms, antonyms, grammar rules, and basic English. For USTET-College, kindly recall grade 11 lessons in reading and writing, and oral communication, including fallacies, speech acts and etc.

Science

Try to answer at least 10 science questions a day. Be sure to start from Earth Science, Biology, and Chemistry down to Physics. Try to study the topic of genes, alleles, blood pressure, cells, earthquakes, laws, elements, compounds, layers of earth and etc.

Mathematics

Mathematics mainly contains basic math, algebra, geometry, and a piece of trigonometry. Mathematics combines the lessons in gen math and statistics.

Here are some tips for your exam prep.

1. Know the coverage and watch out for your weak points. If you’ve got weak subjects in the coverage, focus on these areas when studying for the test.

So take it seriously. You’ll be given 30 minutes to answer 80 questions so know how to budget your time.

3. Don’t just rely on your stock knowledge for the exam.

Remember, you’ll be competing against a lot of exam takers and applicants.        Better go back and review everything in advance.

4. Practice Math problems, take the #100DaysChallenge review science flashcards, and read in your spare time.

Salvage your old notes. Enroll in an online review center. Make your own reviewers and flashcards

You won’t have your calculator in Math, so be prepared. Science is quite spaced out, so be well-rounded with your reviewing. The English portion is reading classical literature to prepare for tricky words, sentences, and literary references.

5. Don’t leave anything blank!

Budget your time wisely during the test so you can answer all the questions. If you’re taking too long on a certain item, skip to the next one. When you’ve left a blank question, make an educated guess and shade it in.

The USTET does not have a right-minus-wrong rule. So it’s better to take a chance and shade that item you might leave blank. Who knows, you might get it right and get a higher score!

6. For Design and Architecture applicants, be prepared for a special on-the-spot drawing exam.

Applicants to courses like Painting, Interior Design, Industrial Design, and Architecture will have to take a drawing test apart from the USTET. While your exam scores are prioritized over the drawing results, this exam plays a part in your acceptance as well. This is to assess your style and the visual skills needed for your course.

Before the test, build up your style. Work on your dimensions and shading, as USTET passers say knowledge of this is a bonus. During the test, take time to meditate and calm yourself.

The night before, get enough rest. Don’t cram but just lightly review. Psych yourself up with positive thoughts and intentions.

UST Entrance Exam Tips

Here are my USTET tips based on my experience. I came from a province which is why I wasn’t able to take review centers during my junior high school years, not until in my senior high years when I have to seriously prepare for CETs and UPCAT.

1. Work hard in your high school years in order to get a higher average. The ranking in USTET is based on your overall performance. 60% coming from the USTET results and 40% from high school grades.

2. Always read and recall your past lessons. Review the basics for USTET-SHS, while trying to reminisce grade 11 & 12 lessons for USTET-COLLEGE, specifically in the subjects Oral Communication, Earth Life & Science, General Mathematics & Statistics.  Try to search online reviewers for college entrance exams. Try to visit this link http://academic-clinic.com/2011/05/free-upcat-reviewers-modules-and-readings. This site contains reading modules and questions that are kinda similar to the questions during USTET.

3. Review as much and as early as you can, at least 2 months before USTET. Take it seriously or else you’ll regret it if you won’t.

4. Don’t review one day before the examination, rather just relax and sleep early. Believe me. Been there.

5. USTET for SHS & college contains 4 subjects “Mental Ability” “Mathematics” “English” and “Science.”

6. In mental ability learn to manage your time and to think fast. You will only be given 30 minutes to answer 80-item test questions. This subtest appears to be easy but is often taken for granted by USTET takers, which leads them to fail.

7. “What is the opposite of love?” “Which is soft?” “What comes next in the pattern?”, are some of the sample questions for the mental ability subtest.

8. For USTET-SHS, mathematics mainly contains basic math, algebra, geometry, and a piece of trigonometry. For USTET-College, mathematics is a combination of the lessons in gen math and statistics.

9. For USTET-SHS, be sure to study pronouns, prepositions, synonyms, antonyms, grammar rules, and basic English. For USTET-College, kindly recall grade 11 lessons in reading and writing, and oral communication, including fallacies, speech acts and etc.

10. For science, try to answer at least 10 science questions a day. Be sure to start from Earth Science, Biology, and Chemistry down to Physics. Try to study the topic of genes, alleles, blood pressure, cells, earthquakes, laws, elements, compounds, layers of earth and etc.

11. Your high school stock knowledge will save and help you a lot.

12. In USTET 3 schedules are provided, however, schedules don’t matter with the results. If you want to prepare for a longer period of time, it’s advisable that you set your entrance exam in the month of December. UST is filled with magnificent lights and lively Christmas decorations during this month.

13. It’s not about when will you be taking the USTET, it’s how prepared you are to take it.

14. Just relax during the examination and manage your time. Time management and thinking smartly are the key to slaying the exam confidently.

15. Don’t leave any blank, rather do an educated guess or if your running out of ideas just shade “B” or “C”. After all, USTET is not a wrong minus one type of exam.

16. Pray. Try to visit the church before taking the exam. Always ask for his guidance and help. Whether you passed or not, still thank him. Let his will be done.
